Yet again, I have had the opportunity to
interview another amazing designer who has created a collection which I think
looks amazing. It is called “GAME OVER! PRESS START!” and it looks amazing,
Here is what Kitty had to say about the collection:
1. What
was the inspiration behind this collection?
My inspiration came from arcade games
that are so popular from 1970 to the mid 1990.The space invader street art in
Paris gave me the idea to investigate the arcade game culture. I was interested
in the colours and pixelated format of the arcade games. I have also studied
the TV
test card and computer error screen from which I generated
interesting print ideas. I had looked at the fashion style in the 80s, such as
the power shoulder and that’s how the silhouette idea came from.
2. Who’s
the target audience for this collection?
I aim to create clothing for young
individual like who is young, playful and energetic. I love to play with
colours and graphic prints, as well as focus on textile details. I believe my
market level will be looking for fashion garments that create dynamic and
cheerful flavour which always brighten audience’ eyes.
3. What
is your brand ethos?
I aim to be playful in combining
colours, and innovative in developing pattern and print. I create individual
print fabrics and explore unique surface design on my garments. I pay attention
to the print placement as well as colours/fabrics and print combination.
Interesting shapes and creative pattern cutting will also be the signature of
my design.
4. Why
have you chosen Oxford Fashion Studio to showcase your amazing designs?
Oxford Fashion Studio offered an opportunity for
exceptional designers around the world to showcase their designs during fashion
weeks. I think it will be a great experience and chance to share my fashion
ideas with the creative individuals around the world, and it provided a
platform for designers to view others’ work and to learn from each others. And
it’s my little dream to have my collection catwalk in the fashion week.
5. What
made you into the designer that you are today?
I am interested in art and design but I never
thought that I would be a fashion designer before, until I have a chance to
study aboard in UK. During the time in UK, I had a really good experience
within my study and the fashion industry. I had been interned in several
fashion labels, such as Richard Nicoll, Edeline Lee and Swash London. I really
love the process of how a design being transfer into a product from an initial
sketch or idea, there’s so much happening in the middle of it. I am interested
in every part of the design process and I would like to explore more about
that, which makes me want to become a fashion designer.
6. What
other designers do you aspire to be as successful as?
Peter Pilotto and Mary Katranzou are always my favourite
designers. I love their textile innovation and craftsmanship. Their collections
are always desirable and recognizable. I personally love printed fashion,
clothing that is rich in colour with innovative textile design and special in
detail.
7. If
you could put your designs on any celebrity, which would you choose and why?
I aim to create clothing for young
individuals who are fun, playful and energetic. Fashion models such as Cara Delevingne and
Lindsey Wixson will be good faces to express and communicate the vision of my
work. And I personally love Susie Bubble , I love her personal style, she looks
young and vigorous, and I am sure she is a colour lover as well.
8. When
you are asked, “What is Fashion?” What is the first thing that comes to mind?
In my opinion, Fashion is what you wear that makes
you happy! It is what that makes you feel good throughout the day.
9. What
advice would you give to an up and coming designer?
‘Don’t give up!’. You know what you want, then you
should go for it. It’s better to move little step by step towards your dream
than do nothing because you think it’s difficult and tough, your dream will
then stay far apart from you forever. There is always a solution, you should be
the one to find out and overcome all the difficulties. If it’s what you eager
to do, you will never regret.
10. What
is next for you and your brand?
I am now working as a visual merchandiser and
self-employed fashion designer. I have started the design of my S/S17
collection. I hope my S/S17 collection can go under production. In the meantime,
I would like to gain more experience in order set up and run my little
business. I hope I can have more exceptional designs to show to my audience.
I really appreciated her encouragement for up and coming designers, ‘Don’t give up!’ Allow that to resonate in mind for a second and I hope that inspires you.
You can catch Kitty’s collection at OFS New York Collection tomorrow at 5pm at Studio 450. It’s going to be amazing!
