I’m so excited for the upcoming fashion weeks. So much so that I’ll be sharing my favourite moments from last seasons & what I’m looking forward to this season over on my Instagram.
Make sure you’re following @victoriousdarius to keep updated.
Step 2: White Dungarees from Boohoo Man (Currently not available so White Jeans will do)
Step 3: White High Tops from Electric Styles
This is a great look where you want to make a statement and personally, I feel like white makes my skin look really healthy hence why if you see me I will probably be in white or a bright colour.
Look 2 – Casual Monochrome
Similar rules as Look 1, but with the contrast of Black. I wore my Black and White tribal print joggers from Forever 21 (No longer available) however, any black jeans or joggers will work perfectly. Don’t forget these #Unique sunnies from Hashtag Sunglasses. Enter Code ‘NewShades4You’ for 10% off your purchase!
Look 3 – Hint of Red
Excuse my face in this one 😂
Black & White look amazing with pretty much anything but red is a power colour. Style the white T-Shirt and Black Jeans with these beautiful Red Brogues from Shoe Embassy. And add some shades like mine from Street Affaires.
Look 4 – Marching into battle
There’s a lot more colour in this fit which I love. Starting with the ASOS white Tee base, layer on a sleeveless khaki shirt like mine from Forever 21 (No Longer Available) then add this Black and Gold Bracelet from ASOS for some extra colour and match them with some Gold Sunnies like mine from H&M. Grey Jeans are becoming a favourite of mine lately, they just work with a lot of things. And finally some brightly coloured Adidas Superstars.
And those are my looks all based on this amazing T-shirt from ASOS that I am completely in love with. I got it in 2XL, even though I am an XL, to make it baggier and to emphasise the drop shoulder more.
Welcome back to the Blog. Long time no speak. Let’s Talk about Black Girls Rock!
Before getting into the style, I just want to address something. This is something that we should all be watching, no matter your gender, religion, colour or orientation. It is amazing and if you have never seen it before, Catch it on replay on BET.
Now time for the style!
(Disclaimer: All Images found on google.com)
The Host – Taraji P Henson
The Actress and Activist hosted the show and wore 5 different outfits throughout the night. A queen can never have too many outfit changes right? She started on the Red Carpet in dark blue cut-out gown by David Koma. Her looks all celebrated her curves and inner and outer beauty!
Young Gift and Black – Yara Shahidi
The graceful, powerful and knowledgeable Yara Shahidi stunned in this Purple Elie Saab gown. Her style is great but her confident, calm & collected personality is even better. She accepted her award so graciously and spoke so eloquently. Congratulations on getting into Harvard!
Issa Rae
I’m still yet to watch insecure but I already know how amazing it is. Love this light and airy gown from Aleksandra Dojcinovic, it’s extremely flattering on her!
Skai Jackson
The beautiful young star is changing the world by standing against bullying and is standing for equality. Looking absolutely stunning in this Ong Oag Pairam dress.
These are just a few of my favourite looks from Black Girls Rock. What were your favourite looks?
But beyond the looks, Black Girls Rock is a powerful movement that is truly amazing. Every speech inspired me to get better and go further and watching this always gives me a higher level of respect for my grandmothers, aunties and my mum!
I look forward to see how the Celebrants and M.A.D girls progress.
I think it is fairly safe to say that Roxxsaurus is killing the Youtube Game!
I am proud to call her a friend and I am proud to be a fan. To see her grow has been a privilege. She recently hit 2 Million subscribers on her main channel and on 6th August at Summer In The City, she released her official Merch!
She established her channel, in early 2014, creating makeup tutorials, look books and DIY tutorials.
She would let her 12-year-old self-know to,” never feel like you’re not good enough, never let anyone change you or put you down for doing something that makes you happy.”
Whether she is working with L’Oréal Paris, Maybelline or Claire’s, Roxi is an advocate for positivity, kindness and diversity. Her motivation to succeed comes from within. Even when hate has been thrown her way, she continued to smile and live by the words “Kill Em With Kindness!”
Tiffany Saunders is, firstly, an amazing woman and, secondly, an exceptional friend.
I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with her for a good few years now and I thought it would be time to ask her some questions.
She, along with Carl Anglim and the Oxford Fashion Studio team, is taking the fashion world by storm. The Model, Runway Director and all-around Superwoman is helping to change the game! She is a constant inspiration to me (Okay, I am just gushing again!) and this interview will prove her role model status!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would say to keep having fun, keep trying new things and do what you want – not just what friends do or even what you’re doing at a particular point in time.
What have been your biggest successes throughout your career?
Good question! For me, I would say I’m so proud to have the position I hold and I enjoyed my time as a model as well. I really love my job and I feel very lucky to be able to say that. I know of people who don’t enjoy what they do which is unnecessary. Doing something that makes you happy is accessible to everyone.
How have you maintained your successful career?
Well, I think it’s important to always make sure you strike the right balance between being ambitious, open-minded, creative and kind. Not being afraid to do things a little differently. At Oxford Fashion Studio we are an independent organisation and one of the reasons that’s such a good thing is that we set our own rules, create our own culture and are not bound by traditional ways of doing things. It’s up to us.
Who or what helped you along the way?
Without a doubt, I am where I am today because of what I have learned from the Oxford Fashion Studio Director, Carl Anglim. His ambition, drive and respect for his team and for our designers is an inspiration to me.
What obstacles have you faced along the way and how have you overcame them?
I would say the key to overcoming obstacles is to always keep a clear, open mind. You have to be flexible and solution-orientated.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your industry?
Don’t be afraid to take on new challenges – follow your instincts
Be prepared to work hard with a high level of energy and passion
Always look to learn from others
What’s next for Oxford Fashion Studio?
We are just about to open 6 shows in Milan which is incredibly exciting!
I am so excited to see what’s in store for Tiffany and Oxford Fashion Studio. Just watch this space, you may be seeing more about them very soon!
Angel Sinclair is a phenomenal lady who founded Models Of Diversity and I had the opportunity to interview her.
But before we jump into the interview, Let’s find out a little more about Models of Diversity.
Models of Diversity is the campaign for more diversity in the models we see every day. We call on the fashion, beauty and marketing industries to recognise the beauty in people of all races, ages, shapes, sizes and abilities. Our mission is to change the face of fashion and modelling.
So as you can see, they are pushing for change within the industry and rightfully so. I try my best to show diversity on my channels and in the content I produce or repost.
You may also be familiar with some Models of Diversity such as Jack Eyers (Mr England, Congratz!) and Kelly Knox. Eyers and Knox both walked in this year’s Teatum Jones show at London Fashion Week and completely took over the media. These fabulous humans were featured in BBC News, The Telegraph & Huffpost Style UK. I even saw them featured on ITV news (Think I fangirled a bit 😂) and was filled with pride.
Kelly Knox
Now let’s find out more about the amazing woman empowering others to love themselves and to show that beauty is not limited to the cookie-cutter format we have been used to seeing:
What advice would you give to your 12-year-old self?
One of the things I would have said to myself is to have more faith in myself and that no matter what happens I would be ok. I would remind myself the importance of self-acceptance coz in the 70s it was non-existent. As a child who was bullied, my self-confidence was so low that I saw no future so I would tell myself that there is a bright future ahead no matter what people may say. And that I am lovable.
What have been your biggest successes throughout your career?
Working for refuge as a domestic councillor was a huge success, supporting thousands of women over a 12 year period. Being one of the first in the UK to put on a plus size show that featured some of the world’s top plus size models Lizzie Miller, Tacora Jones and Robyn Lawley.
How have you maintained your successful career?
I would say by having a strong spiritual connection and having a great network of family and friends who keep me grounded. I have also drawn great successes from doing a lot of voluntary work within the alcohol and drugs community.
Who or what helped you along the way?
My best friend Peter Jeal. he is now the chairman of MOD. Peter has always inspired me, believed in me and supported me. He is my Rock. He is constantly doing things for other people selflessly.
What obstacles have you faced along the way and how have you overcome them?
For a six-year period, I have fought tirelessly for disabled models who wouldn’t necessarily have a voice. I come up against obstacles daily within the fashion industry and am constantly having doors shut in my face, however, I persevere and don’t give up which has led to great breakthroughs with models such as Jack Eyres walking in fashion weeks around the world.
What 3 pieces of advice would you give to someone just starting out in your industry?
First and foremost would be that they have to have self-belief. The second would be that NO is not an option. No matter how many times they may hear it they have to go in and stick to what they believe in and their end goal. And Lastly, Believe in the power of giving. Every day do one act of kindness and the universe will be kind to you.
What is next for you and your career?
I want to do more to highlight the issue of the lack of Models of Color within the media. My next step will be to open a small diverse modelling agency in London that promotes a healthy happy body image to the everyday consumer.
As you can see, Angel works tirelessly to allow under-represented demographics of society to have a voice within the fashion and media industry. Just watch this space, diversity is on the way!
