The press party was definitely a family affair this season. My parents and I attended tonight and it was amazing. It was lovely to see Carl and Tiffany again and to finally meet Jem and Alison. This is why I love Oxford Fashion Week, Everyone knows someone and everyone is so friendly. I’m looking forward to the bloggers party on Thursday. Thank you OFS! #OFStakeoverOXFORD #VictoryforuFashion Be Victorious Everyday. (at The Varsity Club)
This Saturday, Lavinia Cadar will be showcasing her new collection at Oxford Fashion week’s Ready-to-wear show at 6pm at the Sheldonian Theatre.
Duas Formas – Which means ‘two ways’ in Portuguese – is Lavinia’s SS16 collection. Lavinia Cadar is a luxury Womenswear brand based in London. The brand is focused on the global woman who enjoys life in terms of vibrancy, freedom and creativity. As you can see from the photo above, Lavinia’s designs definitely embody that. She has showcased previous collections at the House Of Parliament in London, at the Catwalk Edit Event as part of London Fashion Week and, most importantly, at Oxford Fashion Week 2015 in March.
Here’s a quote from the beautiful designer herself:
“As a fashion designer, I love everything beautiful,
unusual and innovative, and enjoy creating bold visual statements through my
work. I am always inspired by Modern and contemporary art. When developing a
new collection, I apply a variety of techniques, be it laser cutting, digital
printing, innovative tailoring or draping with new materials.”
Lavinia has graduated from the University for the Creative Arts with a First Class BA (Hons) Fashion degree. She says that, “My
graduate collection has been appreciated on
various platforms, including The Houses of Parliament in London,
Graduate Fashion Week, London Fashion Week and Oxford Fashion Week.
Previously, I have studied Fashion Folio and
Orientation to Art and Design for one and a half years year at Central
Saint Martins College of Art and Design, in London, and for two years I have
completed certificates for Fashion Design and Merchandising in New Delhi,
India, where I have acquired an appreciation for colour, embroidery and even
new silhouettes.”
Duas Formas was predominately inspired by the work of Barbara Hepworth’s String sculptures such as “Stringed Figure (Curlew).”
In Hepworth’s work, she explores spatial tension created by the geometrically tied strings inside the sculpture. She also creates symmetrical patterns with the strings which makes the end result feel very feminine and elegant. Lavinia has translated this into her collection through construction, the choice of fabrics and silhouette, along with the detailing, which uses ribbons to help to create and sustain the shape of the garment. The end result aims to express an understanding of how two materials (Or Two ways) can interact and through their silent tension create a well balanced yet flexible style.
Lavinia Loves Oxford Fashion Week and here’s why: “For me, Oxford Fashion
Week is a place where fashion meets art, innovation and creation. Oxford is
internationally renowned for its intellectual edge, and I believe that my
conceptual creations are fit into such fashion context.” Oxford is considered as one of the great intellectual and cultural capitals of the world. It’s home to the one of the best Russell Group Universities, Oxford University which is 919 years old. As well as being the home of history, it’s also the place of cultural diversity and growth. Lavinia’s designs completely embody Oxford Fashion Studio’s Ethos and I am really excited to see her work.
